Dialogue on Women Leadership Commences in NJC

Posted on Jun 08 2015

With the impending vote on ordination of females to the Pastoral Ministry at the 60th General Conference Session, the Communication Department of North Jamaica Conference began its dialogue on the subject through its Bible Conference and Constituency fora this past Saturday afternoon.  The theme for the four-week event is “Women Leadership in the Church”.

Pastor Everett Brown, President Jamaica Union Conference

Pastor Everett Brown, President of Jamaica Union Conference, the first speaker at the fora, held at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Salem, focused on the topic, “Biblical Headship, Submission and Equality in Scripture”.

“The head of all creation, of all human beings, of this Church is God,” said Pastor Brown. “Headship” he continued, “does not speak of importance, but biblical headship builds others”.

In an engaging question and answer segment - post presentation, members queried and shared their thoughts on both sides of the issue.  This was moderated by Pastor Astor Bowers, Stewardship and Family Life Director of Jamaica Union Conference.

Pastor Omar Oliphant, NJC Communication Director

Highlighting the importance of the discourse to our theological landscape, Director of Communications, Pastor Omar Oliphant said,  “As the global church meets, many members will not be present and it is vital that as members we are not only aware, but be given an avenue to share in the discussions in a healthy and respectful environment.”
